Dilaudid is a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic made from hydromorphone, a full kappa agonist. Intended for the relief of moderate to severe pain, it is also marketed as Alaudids-HP (hydrocodone bitartrate), Hydromorphic Contain and others. It has been in clinical use since late 1950s.
It is also used as an antidote for naloxone-reversible respiratory depression in patients who have ingested or inhaled sedatives.
Dilaudid is a strong pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain. It comes in different forms, including tablets and injectable solutions. Dilaudid may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
