Suboxone is a prescription medication used in the treatment of opioid dependence and addiction. It contains a combination of two active ingredients: buprenorphine and naloxone.
Buprenorphine is a partial opioid agonist that works by binding to the same receptors in the brain as opioids, reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing the same intense high. Naloxone is added to discourage misuse of Suboxone. If Suboxone is injected, naloxone can precipitate withdrawal symptoms in opioid-dependent individuals.
